A renowned Malayalam author and the winner of the Jyanpeth award for literature, M T Vasudevan Nair's (MT) entry to cinema as a scriptwriter brought about positive changes to Malayalam cinema. The characters of films based on MT's scripts were down to earth and spoke local dialects, which was in sharp contrast with the popular cinema of those days.MT's debut as a director was with the path breaking film Nirmalyam (1973), which narrated the tragic story of a temple oracle with P J Antony's memorable performance as the oracle. He won several national and state awards including the President's gold medal for Nirmalyam(cinemas of malayalam).
His cinema work includes more than forty film scripts, and the direction of six feature films, three documentaries and one TV series

Namboodiri's illustrations for MT Vasudevan Nair's RandaamozhamMy favourite MT novel is Randamoozham« (1984; Eng. »Second Turn«, 1997) which is based on the Indian epic »Mahabharata«. Nair’s respectful recreation of the classic is told from the point of view of the war hero Bhima, who gains, through the author’s ironic undertones, a new psychological depth. "I have not changed the framework of the story by the first Vyasa, Krishna-Dwaipayana. I have read between his lines and expanded on his pregnant silences", M.T
If we watch his movies like vaisali, oru vadakkan veeragadha we will wonder how beautifully he has given depth and new direction to the familiar stories which were told generation after genarations. Here I like to focus on his scripts and movies..
